What is Yamasaki, Minoru & Teruko, House?

This house stands at 3717 Lakecrest Drive in Bloomfield Township. Architect Minoru Yamasaki designed it for himself and his family. It was built in 1972, at the peak of his career. He lived in it from 1972 until his death in 1986. Yamasaki is popularly known as the World Trade Center architect, in New York. The house has two stories, a flat roof, and an L-shaped plan. Its walls mix beige brick with aluminum glazed curtain walls. The design is a Modern home with Japanese influence. Inside there are about 7,000 square feet on two levels. The rooms include five bedrooms and four and a half baths. The ceilings of the music room and foyer hold polarized lenses set in teak frames. The house sits on a 1.8-acre lot near the Bloomfield Hills Club.
