About Historic Places Guide

Historic Places Guide is a reference for the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. Start from a state and browse its listings, or search for a place by name and see exactly where it stands on the map.

Why we built it

The National Register is the official list of the nation’s historic places worth preserving. The underlying records are public, but they are scattered and hard to browse. Historic Places Guide gathers them into one structured, mapped, browsable guide so a curious reader, a traveler, or a researcher can find an answer quickly.

Where our data comes from

Listings are drawn from the National Park Service’s National Register of Historic Places data, a public-domain U.S. federal dataset. We structure and cross-reference that data, add maps, and keep entries updated as new information becomes available. Where a fact is uncertain, we aim to say so rather than overstate it.

Who is behind it
