What is Wallendorf, Joseph and Elizabeth, House?

This Jefferson City, Missouri house dates to about 1830. It is a large two-story log house of the enclosed dogtrot type, set on a stone foundation. The nomination calls it one of the few known surviving examples of this two-story dogtrot log style in the state. The Wallendorf family held the land at its first site from the 1830s until 1975 or later. In late 2004 the house was moved away from that first site. It was rebuilt about 1.5 miles away, and old materials were reused where they could be. A large stone chimney dominates the east wall, and it was rebuilt from the original stone. Grey standing seam metal covers the gable roof. The main entrance faces north and uphill on a sloped site. Per the form, the house will be open by appointment to the public, as part of a museum. That museum is the Missouri Rural and Agricultural Heritage Museum, run by the Missouri Farm Bureau Foundation.
