About this place
What is Pacific Electric Railway Company Depot?
This depot sits on Imperial Highway in Yorba Linda, California. It dates to 1911. That year, the Whittier line of Pacific Electric Railway was extended into the area. The depot served both passengers and freight. The single story building is wooden, with horizontal siding and a bellcast hipped roof. At the west end, Doric columns support a portico over an open waiting area. The east end was the freight area and was later modernized as a nursery office. Red cars made nine runs a day from here to Los Angeles. Passenger service ended in January 1938, as improved highways and increased private automobile use reduced ridership. The tracks were removed in 1951, and the grounds became a nursery. Similar depots went up in La Habra, Glendora, Covina, and Watts. It is one of the last surviving structures tied to the Pacific Electric Railway.
